BBQ Season: Dare To Go Veggie

Summer months are THE time to embrace alfresco social occasions with vibrant dishes and joy-filled gatherings. Enter the BBQ! By using seasonal, fresh and totally delicious veg and creating a fun, relaxed environment (read my top tips here) for your guests, I want to help take the fear out of entertaining so you all have a night to remember.

Anyone can burn a sausage, cremate a burger and skewer some halloumi so to keep your BBQ interesting this Summer and make it stand out from the crowd, who not take a chance and dare to go veggie?! Grilled vegetables are totally delicious (not to mention much cheaper than meat) and often the most praise comes from guests who love the simplicity of grilled broccoli or cauliflower.

A simple marinade of oil, garlic, cracked pepper and plenty of herbs will jazz up any veg dish – a little condiment goes a long way. Think along the lines of cucumber labneh, tomato and basil salsa, beetroot yoghurt and miso butter and you can’t go wrong.

Get the heat turned high for finger-licking chargrilled goodness. Go bold, be proud and have fun with your garnishes – I’ve included some of my favourites below, enjoy!

Sweet potato – feed a crowd with baked jackets piled high with beans, avocado, tahini & herb butter.
Broccoli – slice thinly for a crisp effect or leave chunky for wedges, best enjoyed with feta, garlic yoghurt & a sprinkle of pomegranate.
Sweetcorn – all hail the corn! Smother with homemade miso butter to make yours stand out.
Cauliflower – slice into hearty steaks and brush with oil and cumin for a marriage made in veggie heaven.
Asparagus – half and grill on a high-heat with some lemon for a charred twist on the brunch-time fave.
Peach – what better way to end a BBQ than with sweet, grilled peaches – finish with toasted almonds for a glorious crunch
