Last month, I hosted the first Social Supper where for one night only, five leading chefs from top London restaurants joined me for an evening of delicious food to raise money for our fantastic charity partner Key4Life.
Growing up, I wasn’t one for following the rule book and found myself in and out of trouble throughout my teenage years. Thankfully, I’ve been given plenty of second chances which has contributed to where (and who!) I am now. As owner and founder of Social Pantry, I’m fortunate enough to be able to offer others a second chance in life and that’s exactly why I started working with Key4Life.
The driving force behind the Social Supper was to raise awareness of the work that Key4Life do (find out more here) and to give guests an evening of incredible food they’ll never forget. I enlisted the help of five hugely talented chefs and partnered each of them with a young man from the Key4Life scheme; the idea being that prior to the event, each pair would work together to devise a dish from the 5-course menu that we would serve guests on the night.
I kicked off the evening with my fantastic Key4Life partner Ray – together we created a selection of more-ish canapés including shredded ham hock bon bons, Dorset crab & cucumber bites and truffled goats cheese crisps. Following that, Lee Westcott (Typing Room) took charge of the cold starter, Anna Barnett (Vogue, Grazia) then served the veggie starter, Robin Gill & Richard Falk (The Dairy) cooked the most delicious lamb main and Adam Handling (The Frog) created a stunning, Insta-worthy dessert celebrating seasonal strawberries.
After each course was served, I introduced our guests to the pair behind the dish – giving them a chance to shout about their experience working together. It was magical seeing the young men come into their own in the kitchen and I’m thrilled to say that as a direct result of the supper, at least three of them have been offered employment – go team!
