Eating Out – St Leonards, Shoreditch

After a long hot summer of events it was time for a catch up with my planners, after seeing St Leonards featured in Stylist we wanted to check it out.

The brilliant team behind Brunswick House, Jackson Boxer and Andrew Clarke, have opened this stunning new site in East London. The interiors are a combination of wood, concrete and leather; a refreshingly cool space where the bar is a feature along with the hearth and ice bar. Although pretty masculine at a glance, there is feminine balance with rustic linen and soft chair furnishings.

We started off with oysters and cocktails (always a good way to start a Friday afternoon) before working our way through the menu; enjoying small plates, dishes from the hearth and desserts to share. Every plate was delicious, exciting and inspiring, the flamed oysters got us off to a banging start and it just kept on giving. The stand out dishes for me were the wild bass with lardo, broccoli with ham knuckle and hispi cabbage with pork fat. Everything was totally indulgent but spot on.

They have over 200 wines, a section with ‘50 under 50’ as well as plenty by the glass which makes it all very accessible. We enjoyed their Gavi di Gavi, La Reia ’15 and Picpoul de Pinet, Felines Jourdan ’17. The menu is changes daily, it is affordable and exciting and the perfect inspiration for my team.
